MIB agree to large settlement for severely injured man | Direct 2 Solicitors MIB agree to large settlement for severely injured man

A church worker from Suffolk who was left severely injured and with severe brain damage when he was run over by musician Pete Doherty's manager has been awarded High Court damages.

The man, aged 42, of Hadleigh, sustained his injuries when the car owned by Mr. Doherty ran him over in 2009. Mr. Doherty's manager, Andrew Boyd, 42, of London, was subsequently sentenced to jail for 12 months in a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court after he plead guilty to the charge of dangerous driving in 2010.

It has now been confirmed that the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) agreed to a High Court damages settlement of a confidential lump sum. It is understood that the settlement also provides the injured man a five-figure payment annually to fund the post accident care he will need for the remainder of his life.

It has not been made public, but it is believed that the full settlement package is likely to run well into seven figures.

Boyd had been driving Doherty's car when he hit the man in Hadleigh in September 2009.

In a sad twist of fate, the injured man was delivering church newsletters to various residential areas near Hadleigh, in Suffolk, when the accident happened.

The accident caused severe injuries which left the man with "very severe" brain injuries and fractures to many of his bones.

Along with Boyd's jailing, Doherty was handed down a 12 month driving ban as he had allowed his car to be driven by an uninsured motorist.

Interestingly, it is understood that the decision of the The High Court includes a provision enabling the MIB - which compensates victims of uninsured drivers - to pursue Doherty & his manager Boyd in order to to get their money back.

After the court ruling was issued, Mr Corder's family solicitor, Hannah Rutterford, said: "The family have been devastated by the incident and are now just relieved that a settlement has been obtained which will ensure that he can be given whatever medical treatment or care is most appropriate."
